How To Play Texas Hold 'em

Playing Texas Hold 'Em Poker at an online casino

The world's most popular casino card game is almost certainly Texas Hold'em. It's a community card game meaning that some cards get dealt face up in the middle of the table and are then shared by all the players. Each individual player has two cards face down that are theirs alone and use these combined with the 5 community cards to construct the best possible five-card hand.

The game begins when two cards are dealt face down to each player. These cards are sometimes known as "hole cards" or "pocket cards" and are then followed by a round of betting. Many Hold'em games start the betting with one or two "blind" bets to the left of the dealer. These are forced bets and must be made before seeing your cards. Play will then start clockwise from the blinds with each player taking it in turns to fold, call the blind bet or raise. Usually the blinds are "live" which basically means that they may raise themselves when the game action gets back around to them.

Now it is time for the "flop" to be dealt. The flop consists of three cards dealt face up in the middle of the table and they ensure that another round of betting begins with the action starting with the first blind to the dealers left. Then another card known as the "turn" is also dealt face up in the middle of the table and players place their penultimate bets. The final card is known as the "river" and is followed by a final round of betting.

The online game of Texas Hold'em is usually played for a high only with each player attempting to make the best possible five-card combination to compete for the pot. In most cases players will use both of their hole cards to make their best hand at the casino game but this is not compulsory. In some cases a player may even choose to play the board and use no hole cards at all. Identical 5-card hands will split the pot and the sixth and seventh cards will not be used to break ties.
